Nikki never envisioned herself as a successful athlete. She lacked athleticism and didn’t fit the conventional mold of what society considers an athlete to be. However, this did not stop her from excelling in the sport of long distance swimming in open water. Through her challenging feats of swimming in open waters under extreme conditions, such as icy lakes and immense ocean straits, she discovered the incredible strength and resilience of her mind and body. Her experiences taught her that she possesses hidden talents she never thought of. Motivated by this belief, she now shares her expertise and passion for the sport with children of diverse abilities, training and guiding them to cross the English Channel as a relay team. In doing so, she inspires them to tap into their own hidden potential and discover their inner strength.

Seven-month-old Angel Josiah Rodriguez died after he was left unattended in a bathtub on Oct. 6, of 2024.
Since then, the East Haven Police Department’s Investigative Services Division was assigned to the incident.
According to police, the investigation showed that the child’s father, Angel Marcus Rodriguez left two young children unattended in the bathtub, including Angel Josiah.
When the 7-month-old was found unresponsive in the bathtub by another family member, Rodriguez was found in a bedroom down the hall talking on his phone.

The University of Pennsylvania is pushing back against the Trump administration after President Trump halted $175 million in research funding to the institution. The funds were intended for projects such as drug screenings against deadly viruses, protections against chemical warfare, and advancements in quantum computing.
University President J. Larry Jameson said the funding cut is linked to President Trump’s executive order on “keeping men out of women’s sports.” In 2022, transgender swimmer Lia Thomas won the NCAA individual title for U-Penn. Jameson stated that the university was adhering to NCAA policies as they existed at that time and added that U-Penn now complies with the current policies.
