Dominique and Pauline Pratt presenting what seems to be a potential great documentary about open water swimming, I guess about the two teams preparing to cross the English Channel, one as the fastest team ever and the other as the oldest. Comments from team members also. It’s only a working title, and a rough cut without audio mix, but still looks very promising!

Nice video here from The Swimming Hall of Fame, showing us the ruins of a public swimming pool (including an underwater labyrinth!) in the ancient city of Paestum, Italy, the remains of a presumed private residence with a 10 x 25 meter swimming pool, and the local National Museum that hosts the oldest image of a swimmer or diver in Greek Art, dating to 575 BC.

The International Sports Press Association AIPS announced Monday that Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic and Italy’s champion swimmer Federica Pellegrini have won the AIPS Europe 2011 Athletes of the Year Awards. Pellegrini won the women’s Evgen Bergant Trophy with a convincing 71 votes ahead of Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova (50 votes) and Norways ski ace Marit Bjørgen (43 votes), and is the first European swimmer to name European athlete of the year, since Netherland’s Inge de Bruijn and Pieter van der Hoogenband took both awards back in 2000. As you probably remember, John Caughlin lost most of his right arm and thumb and index finger on his left hand, after being hit by a boat (without propeller guard) during the Maui Channel swim on September 3rd 2011. Life after 615 is a blog about this new challenge of his, named so because they actually had finished the race in 6 hours and 15 minutes, when the boat ran him over. Via HalfMoonBayPatch, family and friends have set up this PayPal donation website so well-wishers can donate to his medical expenses.
