OK, this is nice but also a bit spooky: A video from when John Caughlin and Mike Mitchell swam the Maui Channel in September 2011, up until (but thankfully not including) the accident when Caughlin got hit by a boat propeller. Follow Caughlin on his recovery blog “Life after 615“.

Michael Phelps: No words. Just water...Olympic legend Michael Phelps has according to the New York Post split with his longtime girlfriend Nicole Johnsen, a former Miss California. She travelled with him to Shanghai 2011, but sources say now that the couple broke up a few weeks ago, and that Phelps is telling friends he’s single. Bleacher Report speculates if this is a bad omen of things to come for Phelps, that he’ll loose focus with London 2012 only half a year away. Aussie bookies are betting on him getting back together with old flame Stephanie Rice.

The Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) announced yesterday evening following a meeting between Federica Pellegrini and national swimming team coaches that her new coach will be the same as Magnini’s, and that her preparation for the London 2012 Olympics starts with a 20 day long altitude camp in Flagstaff, Arizona on January 8.

After the training camp she’ll be based in Rome, and also spend time training along with the rest of the Italy swimming team at the national training centres in Ostia and Verona. FIN president Paolo Barelli said at the end of the meeting, that “the agreed training schedule will allow Federica to be relaxed and train well in preparation for her appearance at the Olympics.” Read more (in English) here on Gazzetta.
