• Race in France, it is special !

  • China’s Sun Yang has set himself a priority of taking down Olympic champion Park Tae-whan (KOR) in the 400 freestyle as a trigger to what could turn out to be a triple triumph at the Shanghai 2011 World Championships.

“I put more emphasis on the 400m title because it will be the first event I compete in” … “”I hope a good start will bring luck to my later events” … “I expect fierce competition from my rivals, especially Park Tae-Hwan.”

Why this is swimming relevant. Well, Neethling tweeted this, didn’t he. And by the way, I think that the girls were right to work out :-P

  • Former champion swimmer Simon Cowley is suing Nick D’Arcy for damages over the bar room incident which left him with such injuries that he has spent AUS$40,000 (US$41,700) on medical expenses, lost his place on the 2008 Australian Olympic team and had to quit his job. D’Arcy says he hit Cowley in self-defense after being slapped by a bigger, unknown man, but Cowley says the attack was unprovoked. Cowley needed extensive medical help as result of the attack, including corrective surgery to his jaw, cheekbone and nose, titanium plates inserted in his face and orthodontic braces. Source AFP.

  • I think it is Wu Peng doing the Plunge for Distance here. Did you know that this was actually an Olympic event once? Part of the diving at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, USA. Rules that competitors dove into the pool from a standing position and their attained distance was measured after either 60 seconds passed or their head broke the surface, whichever came first. Winner then was William Dickey out of USA with 19.05 meters.

  • Imágenes del príncipe Alberto de Mónaco y Charlene WittstockHe he, Daddy sounds like a hardcore South African :-)

Wittstock’s patriotism is part of her family heritage. Her father, Mike, is a loyal, no-nonsense South African.

When Prince Albert II called her father last year to ask for her hand in marriage, she advised him to phone before South Africa played France in the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

“The next day I asked: ‘When did you call?’ and he said it was five minutes before kickoff. I asked what my father had said, and he replied: ‘He said he had to get off the phone because the national anthem was coming on.’ I said that I hope he got the message,” Wittstock said in a recent TV interview.
