Just before Christmas, Australia’s Phil Rogers had his Atlanta 1996 Olympics 100 breaststroke bronze medal stolen, two gold medals from the 1994 Commonweath Games, his Order of Australia medal and others, when thieves broke into his home in Adelaide while he was out with his wife and two daughters. They’d also taken a bit of cash, but that was nothing compared to loosing the medals. See AdelaideNow.

“It’s 20 years of a swimming career and you do end up with very little to show for it. I’ve still got state and national medals, but the big ones that don’t come along often are the Olympic and Commonwealth Games and it takes a long time to train for those events. “

Now fortunately, the police have recovered his most prized medal, the bronze from the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, found at a location in Adelaide’s western suburbs after the police receiving a tip-off. Enquires are continuing to locate the remaining seven other medals. Read AdelaideNow

The G-Form iPad Extreme Edge is a flexible, lightweight and water-resistant case for the iPad 1 or 2, molded with the same PORON XRD material that G-Form uses to build elbow, shin and knee pads for skateboarders, extreme skiers, bikers etc. If this thing won’t help your iPad survive a drop onto the pool deck, nothing will :-)

OK, this is nice but also a bit spooky: A video from when John Caughlin and Mike Mitchell swam the Maui Channel in September 2011, up until (but thankfully not including) the accident when Caughlin got hit by a boat propeller. Follow Caughlin on his recovery blog “Life after 615“.

Michael Phelps: No words. Just water...Olympic legend Michael Phelps has according to the New York Post split with his longtime girlfriend Nicole Johnsen, a former Miss California. She travelled with him to Shanghai 2011, but sources say now that the couple broke up a few weeks ago, and that Phelps is telling friends he’s single. Bleacher Report speculates if this is a bad omen of things to come for Phelps, that he’ll loose focus with London 2012 only half a year away. Aussie bookies are betting on him getting back together with old flame Stephanie Rice.

We’ve been there before, but now it’s on CNN, with a lot of interesting comments from Jones himself about his choice to be a swimmer rather than a basketball player like his father, etc. Via CNN, see also Make a Splash
