The Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) announced yesterday evening following a meeting between Federica Pellegrini and national swimming team coaches that her new coach will be the same as Magnini’s, and that her preparation for the London 2012 Olympics starts with a 20 day long altitude camp in Flagstaff, Arizona on January 8.

After the training camp she’ll be based in Rome, and also spend time training along with the rest of the Italy swimming team at the national training centres in Ostia and Verona. FIN president Paolo Barelli said at the end of the meeting, that “the agreed training schedule will allow Federica to be relaxed and train well in preparation for her appearance at the Olympics.” Read more (in English) here on Gazzetta.

Dominique and Pauline Pratt presenting what seems to be a potential great documentary about open water swimming, I guess about the two teams preparing to cross the English Channel, one as the fastest team ever and the other as the oldest. Comments from team members also. It’s only a working title, and a rough cut without audio mix, but still looks very promising!

Nice video here from The Swimming Hall of Fame, showing us the ruins of a public swimming pool (including an underwater labyrinth!) in the ancient city of Paestum, Italy, the remains of a presumed private residence with a 10 x 25 meter swimming pool, and the local National Museum that hosts the oldest image of a swimmer or diver in Greek Art, dating to 575 BC.
