5 Brits secure Olympic spot on 1st night of trials
Hannah Miley swam her fastest 400 meter IM in a textile suit with a time of 3:43.67, and was joined on the squad by Aimee Willmott in 4:37.48. Roberto Pavoni and Joe Robuck filled the two slots in the men’s equivalent with 4:12.43 and 4:14.48 respectively. Robbie Renwick qualified in the 400 freestyle with a Scottish record of 3:46.73, while David Carry’s 3:48.36 was inside the FINA A standard of 3:48.92 but 0.23 seconds outside GB’s harder standard for 2nd place qualifier. Arena’s Powerskin Carbon Pro debuts at British Swimming Trials
The Powerskin Carbon Pro, Arena’s latest swimsuit featuring breakthrough “intelligent compression” technology will make its first appearance in a major competitive meet at the venue for this summer’s Olympic Games, the London Aquatics Centre. They have British swimmers Francesca Halsall and Hannah Miley on board at that meet, as well as Milorad ÄŒavić from Serbia, Denmarks’ Lotte Friis, Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström, Germany’s Paul Biedermann and Ireland’s Grainne Murphy. Also (not attending this meet) Norway’s Alexander Dale Oen, South Africa’s Cameron van der Burgh, USA’s Eric Shanteau and Rebecca Soni, the Netherlands’ Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Brazil’s César Cielo. English Channel Swimming website launched
The Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation (CS&PF) launched their newly designed site cspf.co.uk this week, offering a wealth of practical information including an informative explanation of what English Channel rules are, and featuring personal accounts of swimmers who have successfully swam solo between England and France.It also has a lighter side with advice regarding how to tackle a jelly baby, you will have to immerse yourself into the site to discover that sugary treat.

“We were up at the crack of dawn throwing medicine balls around the camp site. Everyone was washing their pots and pans, looking at us as if we were crazy.
“Then Ben Titley, our coach, got his car out and got us pushing it up the hill. It was like something out of World’s Strongest Man. Ben was sitting in it — I’m not sure if he had the handbrake on.”
