While the selection criteria is usually non-negotiable, Australia’s head coach Leigh Nugent might seek board approval from Swimming Australia to change the rules if Thorpe missed the team by finishing seventh in either the 100m or 200m freestyle. This has been done before, last year the rules were altered to give Libby Trickett a chance to make the world titles team, and in 2008, Felicity Galvez was selected for the Beijing Olympics after ending up seventh at the trials. 5 Brits secure Olympic spot on 1st night of trials
Hannah Miley swam her fastest 400 meter IM in a textile suit with a time of 3:43.67, and was joined on the squad by Aimee Willmott in 4:37.48. Roberto Pavoni and Joe Robuck filled the two slots in the men’s equivalent with 4:12.43 and 4:14.48 respectively. Robbie Renwick qualified in the 400 freestyle with a Scottish record of 3:46.73, while David Carry’s 3:48.36 was inside the FINA A standard of 3:48.92 but 0.23 seconds outside GB’s harder standard for 2nd place qualifier. CC photo #64: The swim pool in Vágur, Faroe Islands
The swim pool in Vágur, Suðuroy, Faroe Islands ready for the “SUM 2008” Faroese youth championships. This is the 25 meter pool that Pál Joensen has been training in since childhood, in his home town of Vágur. A bit shallow in the far end and often hot and humid when full with people. Posted now because I need this photo for a meet invite on my Faroese spoken site :-)

Titley had Tancock & co push a car up a hill (with Titley in it)
Fun story told by Liam Tancock here on The Telegraph
“We were up at the crack of dawn throwing medicine balls around the camp site. Everyone was washing their pots and pans, looking at us as if we were crazy.
“Then Ben Titley, our coach, got his car out and got us pushing it up the hill. It was like something out of World’s Strongest Man. Ben was sitting in it — I’m not sure if he had the handbrake on.”
