This after demonstrating true statesmanship at the 200 butterfly ceremony, applauding South Africa’s Chad Le Clos for out-touching him from what could have been his historic 3rd individual gold medal in the same event. USA first in the men’s 4×200 relay, clocking 6.59.70 ahead of France in 7:02.77 and China in 7:06.40. Chad Le Clos first in the men’s 200 butterfly, clocking 1:52.96 ahead of Michael Phelps in 1:53.01 and Takeshi Matsuda (JPN) in 1:53.21. USA’s Allison Schmitt first in the women’s 200 freestyle with a new Olympic Record of 1:53.61 ahead of Camille Muffat (FRA) in 1:55.58 and Bronte Barratt (AUS) in 1:55.81. China’s Shiwen Ye winning the women’s 200 IM in a new Olympic Record of 2:07.57 ahead of Alicia Coutts (AUS) in 2:08.15 and Caitlin Leverenz (USA) in 2:08.95. James “The Missile” Magnussen (AUS) clocking fastest time of 47.63 in the men’s 100 freestyle semifinal, Kathleen Hersey (USA) the fastest of 2:05.90 in the women’s 200 butterfly semifinal and Michael Jamieson (GBR) the fastest of 2:08.20 in the men’s 200 breaststroke semifinal. London 2012 day 4 prelims: Aussie arsenal firing again
On this fourth day of London 2012 Olympic swimming preliminaries, James “the Missile” Magnussen found form again, placing 4th and 48.38 in the men’s 100 freestyle with USA swimmer Nathan Adrian fastest in 48.19, South Africa’s Gideon Louw in 48.28 and the Netherlands Sebastiaan Verschuren 3rd in 48.37, James “The Rocket” Roberts also qualifying for the semis in 48.93 and 12th, notable omission Italy’s Filippo Magnini in 49.18 and 19th. Kathleen Hersey of USA was fastest in the women’s 200 butterfly, China’s Liuyang Jiao second in 2:07.15 and Great Britain’s Jemma Lowe third in 2:07.64. Dani Gyurta of Hungary was fastest in the men’s 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.98, the British duo Michael Jamieson and Andrew Willis following in 2:08.98 and 2:09.33. And in the men’s 4×200 prelims, USA cruised to an impressive 7:06.75 lead ahead of France in 7:09.18 and Germany in 7:09.23.

Chinese doctor drags Michael Phelps into doping speculation
Wow, harsh words on the The Sydney Morning Herald via the Los Angeles Times, Chinese former Olympic doctor Chen Zhanghao defending newly minted gold medalist Ye Shiwen:
“Abnormal?” Chen was quoted as saying to the newspaper, “America’s Phelps broke seven world records! Is he normal?
“I suspect Phelps, but without evidence, I have to recognize that we should be grounded in facts. The Americans have made many extraordinary performances, but without evidence we have kept silent.”
