As our coach put it, when we were not watching the women’s 100 meter breaststroke final on TV at the team hotel: ‘I hope these are the snooker Olympics, since they are showing them non-live, rather than the swimming World Champs live’ :-/

Dear Eurosport,

I hope youâ€™re well. Thereâ€™s been a world swimming championships going on these past few days. I say that in case youâ€™ve not noticed; a glance at your schedules this weekend would suggest you forgot all about it. After all, while the swimmers were racing in Istanbul, we were treated to replays and delayed coverage of cross-country skiing, luge and ski jumping.

Six sports in Britain, including swimming and tennis, have been warned they will have millions in grassroots funding taken away unless they can show they can improve participation figures in the next 12 months, as Sport England unveiled its investment priorities for the next four years. Olympic swimmer Nathan Adrian to lead toy drive

Olympic swimmer Nathan Adrian was at Target in Colma on Monday morning leading a toy-buying shopping spree for underprivileged kids. Adrian, who won two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics, will be participating in the Salvation Army’s “Dig Deep SF,” which aims to purchase $25,000 worth of toys for Bay Area kids between eight and 16 years old. On the fourth day of the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey, Ryan Lochte (USA) broke the 100 IM world record, clocking 50.71 in the semi where Peter Mankoc’s record from Istanbul 2009 was 50.76. Ruta Meilutyte (LTU) set a new championships record in the women’s 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:03.52 where Rebecca Soni’s record from Dubai 2010 was 1:03.98. Nicolas Santos (BRA) set yet another championships record in the men’s 50 butterfly, clocking 22.22 where his record from yesterday was 22.23. Ye Shiwen (CHN) set a new championships record in the women’s 200 IM, clocking 2:04.64 where Mireia Belmonte’s record from Dubai 2010 was 2:05.73. Robert Hurley (AUS) won the men’s 50 backstroke in 23.04, and USA the women’s 4×100 freestyle in 3:31.01. See a full race report for instance here on SwimmingWorld.
