Quicksand is a mixture of solid particles (like sand) and water. When your foot presses down on it, your weight squeezes the water out from between the particles. That leaves you trapped by mud that feels nearly solid. Check out this video, where the host walks onto what looks like solid ground, and sinks. Within a few minutes, he’s surrounded by a puddle of displaced water. Also, he is a little more trapped than he expected to be

Because Minnesotans are a completely different breed of people descended from snowmen, this is a video of a group of guys icebergin’ in the middle of winter. What’s icebergin’? Apparently pickaxing and stomping around on a frozen lake until the ice breaks into pieces, then running across them.

A Hong Kong man has drowned after helping to save a swimmer’s life off the popular Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Hurghada.

The 40-year-old man, surnamed Choy, had been enjoying a trip with his wife and other travellers on a small island off Hurghada when the incident occurred at around 11am on Tuesday, local agency Wing On Travel announced on Friday.

“The weather was fine and the water was calm. Then a drowning swimmer shouted for help and that male tour member, as well as other local staff, rushed to join the rescue efforts,” a company spokeswoman said.

But after helping to save the struggling swimmer’s life, Choy lost his own, she said.

“The male tour member was found to be unconscious near the shore as he tried to swim back to the beach.”
