46-year-old Nathan Brown, an assistant coach of the Jamaican Swimming Team, was last Thursday charged for robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm. Reports are that two men, one armed with a gun, entered and robbed a supermarket in St. Andrew, getting away with allegedly J$2.68 million (about 31,500 USD). They escaped on a motorbike, later intercepted by the police, and Mr. Brown held with at least J$2 million on him. The other guy escaped with the gun. Osaka Station fountain displays time and art in water
This is totally on the outskirts of swimming relevance, but my gosh this fountain is impressive, located in the South Gate Building of the Osaka Station City complex. Water counts, right ? Via cnet.com and Geeks are Sexy.

Over $100,000 to be won at the US vs Europe duel in the pool
Very nice, competitors at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool will be awarded $1,500 for every gold medal, probably something for lesser medals too, and $15,000 if they manage to set a world record. The European All-Star team will be comprised of up to 22 men and 22 women, and has already seen commitments from World Championship swimmers from Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Belarus, Denmark, Austria and Lithuania. Sealander, the Amphibious Camping Trailer
This German-designed Sealander Amphibious Camping Trailer does double duty as both a place to rest and a lake-worthy water vessel. Ultra-light and waterproof, to be towed by almost any vehicle, and with a handy outboard motor for when on the water. The soundtrack could be a little less “The Last Samurai” me thinks, and a little more James Bond :-)

Kitajima: It will take a world record to win gold in London
Yeehaa, two-time Olympic breaststroke champion Kosuke Kitajima believes he will need to set a world record to win a gold medal at the London Olympics next year, because of the rise of his rivals. Very reasonable thinking, as Alexander Dale Oen was only 0.13 off the world record of 58.58 seconds in the 100 breaststroke. Read IBNLive

Comedian David Walliams is now on the final day of his epic swim along 140 miles of the Thames, that started last Monday. What a hero, read his swimming diary here, and sponsor him here on Sport Relief. -
Brain-eating amoeba now linked to 4 deaths in USA this summer
As they say in this video below, amoebic brain infection are the medical equivalent of being struck by lightning, but still horrific. An extremely common amoeba living in just about every warm body of fresh water, that invades the central nervous system via the nose and kills you almost certainly within two weeks, even if diagnosed early. Chance of infection is only 1 in 10 million, nose clips can reduce risk, but best solution is still to avoid hot, stagnant freswater ponds and streams. Read ABC News and Wikipedia.
