Eindhoven Swim Cup: Sjöström post world-leading time in the 100 semi
At the Eindhoven Swim Cup tonight, Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström scorched the women’s 100 meter freestyle semifinal, with a time of 53.29 ahead of Ranomi Kromowidjojo in 53.60 and Marleen Veldhuis in 54.15. Julia Hassler from Switzerland won the women’s 400 freestyle in 4:14.03, Britain’s David Carry the men’s 400 freestyle in 3:50.52, Wendy v.d. Zanden the women’s 200 IM in 2:13.14 and Sebas van Lith the men’s 200 IM in 2:02.64, this meet apparently the last-chance London 2012 qualification meet for the Dutch. Norway sends 16 swimmers to the Debrecen 2012 Europeans
According to simma.nu/no, Norway will send 16 swimmers to the 2012 European Championships in Debrechen, Hungary, next month, including Ingvild Snildal but not Alexander Dale Oen. Snildal qualified for the London Olympics at the Amsterdam Swim Cup in March, while Dale Oen qualified at the Shanghai world championships last summer. They hope to have more qualifying now at the Europeans, biggest expectations are for Sara Nordenstam and Cecilie Johannesen, and the women’s 4×100 free relay.

3-time European junior champion Mirela Olczak suspended for doping
FINA has announced that 3-time European junior champion Mirela Olczak (POL) was tested positive to the substance Methylhexaneamine following a doping control test at the Grand Prix of Poland on November 12, 2011. The Disciplinary Panel of the Polish Swimming Federation has imposed a sanction of 6 months’ ineligibility on the athlete starting on November 12, 2011. Methylhexaneamine is commonly found in supplements as dimethylamylamine, which is not listed as a banned supplement, other swimmers to have drawn bans by this are Brazil’s Fabiola Molina and USA’s Sean Mahoney.
