Researchers at MIT have developed a new surface texture that, when applied to glass, produces a kind of glass that removes reflections, is free of glare, doesn’t fog, and has a surface that causes water droplets to bounce off like rubber balls, drawing whatever dirt on the surface with them. So I’m thinking goggles, goggles, goggles (yes, I know, we don’t use glass in our goggles, but if they can invent this, they better get at inventing the other thing also). London Olympics won’t allow sharing of photos, video or sound via social networks
Sort of mentioned here before, the London 2012 conditions for ticket holders are pretty extensive, including ban on entering the venues with food, beverages, animals, large photographic equipment, flags of countries not participating in the Olympics (there goes Merkið), musical instruments, objects bearing trademarks, large quantities of coins, lighters, refrigerators etc. Photo site PetaPixel has now noticed this section 19.6.3, banning sharing of photos, video and sound:
“Images, video and sound recordings of the Games taken by a Ticket Holder cannot be used for any purpose other than for private and domestic purposes and a Ticket Holder may not license, broadcast or publish video and/or sound recordings, including on social networking websites and the internet more generally, and may not exploit images, video and/or sound recordings for commercial purposes under any circumstances, whether on the internet or otherwise, or make them available to third parties for commercial purposes.”

It looked very intense, the officials’ technical meeting at the (still mostly for fun) Faroese Masters Championships 2011, where we sort of switch roles with swimmers taking over as officials, and many of the officials jumping into the pool. But if you look closely, you will realize that they are all bent over a pizza menu! :-)

Niki Stepanek freedives on singing Humpback Whale
During the filming of stunt sequences for “Johanna and the Whale“, champion free diver Niki Stepanek dives down seventy feet to hear the song of a humpback whale, up close and personal. Photographed by George Monteiro and safety Diver Bobby Kim, the whale song was recorded live as it was filmed and was so loud that it could be heard through the hull of the boat at the surface.

Troféu Maria Lenk: Cielo rattles 50 free world textile record
At the Maria Lenk Trophy yesterday evening, Brazil’s Cesar Ceilo almost posted a world textile best in the men’s 50 freestyle, scorching the pool in 21.38 seconds, where Fréderick Bousquet’s world textile record is 21.36 from the 2010 Europeans. Bruno Fratus managed a second best in the world this year in the prelims, clocking 21.70, where James Magnussen’s now 3rd best time in the world this year is 21.74 from the Australian Trials.
Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen won both the 50 freestyle (25.06) and the 100 butterfly (58.64), and helped the Corinthians’ to a win in the womens 4×200 freestyle, together with Lotte Friis who the day before had posted meet records in the women’s 200 freestyle (1:59.65) and 1500 freestyle (16:11.76).
