Behold, Adrian & Co’s 5,000 square feet ‘fortress of focus’
In a luxurious, cliff-hanging mansion in the Oakland hills, Cal graduates Nathan Adrian, Will Copeland, Graeme Moore (RSA) and Sean Mahoney have lived for a year, in a 5,000 square feet, six bedrooms temporary home with a living room in which you could (and they did) play badminton. They call it ‘The Mansh’, and share it with Cal pole vaulters Allison Stokke and Theresa Raub, supposedly to please the landlord, ‘who figured with two women aboard, the boys would be less likely to go all Oscar Madison on the place’. Swimmers shy away from Speedo Fastskin3, choose LZR or other brands instead
According to CBS News (and hearsay in Debrecen), the Dutch squad has given up on new Speedo’s Fastskin3 racing system, opting for the 2010 LZR Racer Elite or other brands instead, national coach Titus Mennen going as far as calling the new suit “horrible”. USA’s Jessica Hardy also opts for LZR, saying that with the new Speedo goggles, “I can see more than I would like to see”. Italy’s Speedo sponsored Filippo Magnini has switched to Jaked with the logo blacked out, and Fabio Scozzoli wears the 2010 Speedo, saying “The new one compresses too much. It’s heavy at it seems like it holds water.” Speedo’s acute problem is that they cannot correct whatever faults there are in the newest version, because of FINA rules. Read more here on CBS News.

A lucky shot during the Debrecen 2012 men’s 400 freestyle final, from top to bottom Italy’s Gabriele Detti, Hungary’s Gergo Kis, Italy’s Samuel Pizzetti and Germany’s Paul Biedermann. Notice how Biedermann’s left hand surfs on the water – I’ve heard that this is deliberate, that he tries to surf on his left arm for a moment to keep his body high in the water, fingers almost pointing upwards. Biedermann won the event in 3:47.84.

Kieren Perkins and wife Symantha separated
A month after Grant Hackett and Candice Alley confirmed their separation, the manager of Kieren and Symantha Perkins confirmed that they have also separated. A mutual friend, who asked not to be named, maintained the split was “amicable” and was simply the result of growing apart after 15 years together. Read The Telegraph

Mare Nostrum start lists online
The Mare Nostrum series starts this weekend in Barcelona, June 2nd and 3rd 2012, followed by the Canet en Roussillon meet on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th, and then Monaco next weekend the 9th and 10th. The main site seems to be down for some reason, but the Barcelona start lists can be found here on natacio.cat and the Monaco start lists here, featuring loads of top class swimmers, including our own young Faroese guy Magnus Jákupsson in Monaco, ranked 7th in the 50 backstroke.
