Eagerly waiting for the Mare Nostrum 2011 to begin, I read in other news that the Vattenfall Swim Cup 2011 has started, aka the Danish International Swim Cup, with livetiming from both pools and HD live streaming from finals. Finals that are by the way very nicely dressed-up, with light-show and loud music and everything.

Save yourself from Great Whites with AC/DC
Australian divers have found that Great White Sharks are much less aggressive when listening to AC/DC – particularly ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’. Only problem being in my view, that they at the same time become ‘investigative’, up to the point where they rub their face on the sound source (note to self: have a de-attachable sound source, and don’t sing along!) Read more here on abc.net.au.
“Their behaviour was more investigative, more inquisitive and a lot less aggressive – they actually came past in a couple of occasions when we had the speaker in the water and rubbed their face along the speaker which was really bizarre.”

Canals are a dangerous place to swim
Teens urged to swim where a lifeguard is present, stay clear of the hydros in the canal walls and keep away from high voltage wires [Heck, maybe even to switch their brains on again?]. “We don’t have a problem with them swimming, it’s the danger.”

Norwegians will fight over sewer on June 1st
As mentioned on April 29, Norway’s Forsvarsbygg is looking for new usage of the old sewer facilites under Festningsplassen in Oslo, with bidders being at least a cinema, a concert hall and a water recreational facility. Next phase is a “Fight Club” in the old (and I guess not yet renovated) facilities on June 1st, arranged by Oslo Arkitektforening (Architect Union of Oslo) and Oslo Byforum (Oslo City Forum), which will result in a winner being chosen at the end of the night. Fighting for the sewer pool, in the blue corner, president of the Norwegian Swimming Federation, Per Rune Eknes. As they say here, ‘For the first time ever, the Fight Club goes underground. It is guaranteed to become dirty.”
