Breaking news from our friend Bjørn Soleng live tweeting (or facebooking) the 2012 LEN Congress, Italy’s Mr Paolo Barelli replaces Mr Nory Kruchten from Luxembourg as president of the European Swimming Federation, Sweden’s Sven von Holst has been elected as one of five vice presidents, and Norway’s Per Rune Eknes is new member of the board.

See official press release here, also elected vice president is Germany’s Dr. Christa Thiel, and in her place new Treasurer Tamas Gyarfas from Hungary. New General Secreaty is GBR’s David Sparkes, replacing retired Sven Egil Folvik from Norway, and among the newly elected members of the LEN Bureau Russia’s Vladimir Salnikov and Serbia’s Aleksandar Sostar.

Behold a Glock 22 being fired underwater, more awesome photos and video to be seen here on PetaPixel. So it was seems to be true what our physics teacher taught us at engineering school, that you wouldn’t be able to shoot through a 1 meter thick aquarium.

  • Singapore Swimming Association reprimanded for London 2012 fiasco

In a statement sent to the media on Friday, The Singapore National Olympic Council reprimanded the Singapore Swimming Association for not maintaining due diligence to ensure that the national swimmer Joseph Schooling’s swimwear met FINA regulations. The swimmer was forced to swim with new equipment on his Olympic debut, which the SNOC say cost the 17-year old his chance at the Games, having been left rattled at the London Aquatic Centre before posting a time more than two seconds off his personal best.

Now, I’ve heard the same story from another federation, with swimmers feeling outright harassed by officials. So maybe there was a systemic error, also.

Spain’s Mireia Belmonte García on the lane ropes after clocking a new world record of 4:25.06 in the women’s 400 IM final at the Rijeka 2008 European Short Course Swimming Championships. Also seen on the photo are Hungary’s Evelyn Verraszto in blue cap and Italy’s Alessia Filippi facing this way, and I guess Great Britain’s Hannah Miley facing the other way, see result list here.
