Interesting interview here on Welt Am Sonntag, where Steffen says that she will let her hair grow up to the Olympics, only cutting the tips as a good luck charm. She hopes to do good at the Shanghai 2011 World Championships, to prove that she is still to be reckoned with, but has her absolute focus on London 2012, where after she will start her master’s degree in business communication. And then she talks about her love for kids, maybe planning some with her fiancé Paul Biedermann. The 123. German Championships start on Tuesday, which double as selection for Shanghai 2011. Ãslandsbankasjósund 2011
Some tough Icelandic vikings taking a dip in 7.5° Celcius warm water (45.5° Fahrenheit). We call it ‘Faroe-white’, when someone (as me) has the skin color of someone who has never seen the sun. Apparently, there is a ‘Icelandic-white’ color too :-)

By gosh, it probably started here, for me personally, with watching the films of Jacques Cousteau in the 70ies. Rest in peace, Captain!

Highlights from the Faroese championships
Segment on Faroese national TV, Monday the 23rd of May after the Faroese Short Course Championships. I have for the first time ever tried to add closed captioning to the video, which was hard and tedious. And yes, I am the commentator screaming stupidly when the Faroese 50 meter female record is broken by a 14-year-old girl :-)

Merrill swam for three hours to save his friends
Wednesday night, 25-year-old Collin Merrill’s boat capsized with two of his friends aboard, having left his cell phone, and having no idea whether or not anyone would be looking for them.
“One of the reasons I knew I had to swim for it was because we were heading to the jetties and the shipping channel and in the middle of the night we could have been run over by a tanker that wouldn’t have seen us”
He began swimming wearing one of the five life jackets he had on the boat. About halfway he really started to worry about whether he would make it, but still kept on knowing that if he didn’t, his friends might die.
“It was my responsibility to save them because I put them into the situation. Without me, they wouldn’t have been there. So I didn’t feel like a hero, but I felt blessed it all worked out”

Jukić under investigation for saying no to doping test
European 200-meter butterfly champion Dinko Jukić is under investigation for missing an unannounced doping test, refusing it on the basis that he was unhappy with the hygiene standards. The Austrian swimming federation confirmed the refusal, which may count against Jukić under FINA’s three-strikes-and-you’re out rule. Read more here on SwimNews.com and on USA Today.
