In an amateur video viewed on YouTube more than 12,000 times, a seal is spotted clambering over flood defences at Fen Drayton lakes in Cambridgeshire. The reserve is more that 50 miles from the coast at Kings Lynn in Norfolk, where the seal is thought to have entered the river Great Ouse. read The Guardian

Hundreds of hardy swimmers rang in 2013 with a plunge into the icy sea off Brooklyn’s Coney Island, an area struggling to recover from Superstorm Sandy.
“On Boxing Day, 26th December, not one, but TEN members of Skanda Vale Community will be swimming in the icy waters of the IRISH SEA, to help raise money for a new in-care patient unit at Skanda Vale Hospice.”
