Confession time – Once upon a time, I gave in and allowed my (teenage) swimmers to try this on the insulating swimming pool cover, after they had been begging for weeks. It was really, really fun, arranging relays and stuff on ‘dryland’ across the pool, right up until one of them went through the (old and battered) cover. He went right through and disappeared, it was still pretty funny and I guess not that dangerous … but the cover was wrecked.

So, the next morning, I had to call the janitor and explain. Not at all as fun as running on that (expensive) piece of rubber. You’ve been warned.

Images of a giant anaconda being photographed underwater created a stir this week on Facebook Brazil. After the amazing images were posted and shared, many Facebook users posted comments doubting the authenticity of the photographs.

Biologist Daniel De Granville, who took the pictures, assured the G1 network that the images of the huge reptile, which he estimated to be about seven meters (23 feet), are genuine and that he captured them in the Formoso River, in Bonito, 300 km (186 miles) from Campo Grande.

  • RefCam might very well be the next big thing in sports broadcasting

Broadcasters around the world are experimenting with mounting cameras on referees, to get a new and really in-game video angle. Now, in swimming we already have really nice video angles when the professional TV crews roll in … but maybe an idea for when we want to arrange our own (and low-cost) video streaming?

Heidi, a four-year-old continental giant rabbit, has had sessions in a heated pool while wearing a lifejacket, to relieve her from the pain from arthritis in her hips and knees and spondylosis in her neck. Hydrotherapy pool owner Linda Prove admitted she was sceptical when a vet referred the rabbit, but the treatment was “working incredibly well”. See BBC via Cute Overload

Ah, there is a methodology. That makes it much easier. I guess.

Here’s our inaugural swim tips video. The idea for doing this came to me while I was shoveling snow all day yesterday! All humor aside, this is a great way to manage immersion shock prior to swimming in colder water temperatures.
