Hungary’s Olympic champion Dániel Gyurta on the medal podium after winning gold in the men’s 200 breaststroke at the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey. His time of 2:01.35 was a new Championships record, see the result list here.
Yesterday at the annual Norwegian sports gala, Hungarian Olympic gold medallist Dániel Gyurta presented a copy of his gold from the 2012 London Games 200m breaststroke to the family of Alexander Dale Oen. Gyurta was a friend – and competitor – of Dale Oen, who sadly died from a heart attack while on altitude camp in Flagstaff, Arizona, April 30, 2012.
“Alexander was loved by both Dániel and everyone else in Hungarian swimming,” Hungarian swimming president Tamás Gyárfás said in a statement. “We want to show that we appreciate him.”
Gyurta will be competing at the Bergen Swim Festival in April, dedicating it to Dale Oen’s memory. The competition was cancelled last year due to Dale Oen’s death just days before.
