Swimmer Ayouba-Ali Sihame, 18, represented the tiny African island nation of Comoros during the London Games.

But she ended up in a prison cell after fleeing the athlete’s village in a desperate bid to avoid being wed to a twice-married 60-year-old man.

Her mother told her she was being sold and must give up her sporting career just days before she flew to London.

She said the sportswoman’s ‘celebrity’ status had pushed up her value in the poverty-stricken strict Islamic community.

Still, Heisler refused to let go of his vision of capturing Phelps in that blue “pool glow.” Enter some serious ingenuity. Read PetaPixel and Strobist

My utmost respect, Dániel Gyurta’s pronounciation was really good, when he presented this gold medal to Alexander Dale Oen’s family. Read more on for instance Speed Endurance, Swim News and SwimmingWorld Magazine

As I promised at the London Olympics, I will present a medal to the family of my friend Alex.
I am convinced that Alex would have won gold at the Olympics, so this medal is representative of what he could not achieve because of the tragic event. With Alex’ death, Norway didn’t only lose a great swimmer and athlete, but a fantastic human being.
