Fran Halsall to lead British challenge at Herning 2013 European Short Course Champs
See swimming.orgHalsall (British Gas ITC, Loughborough) will be joined by the likes of Jazz Carlin (British Gas ITC, Swansea), Andrew Willis (British Gas ITC, Bath), Hannah Miley (Garioch, Scotland) and Craig McNally (Warrender, Scotland) as part of an 11-strong team.
“This is a team which is focused on athletes that we feel can deliver medals either today or in the near future,†said British Swimming head coach Bill Furniss.
“It continues the strategy we have adopted of smaller, more focused teams and this will continue to be a key philosophy going forward.
“Certain swimmers on the team will go to Denmark off the back of competing at the FINA World Cups and they will conclude the short course season in Glasgow at the Duel in the Pool. This is part of a strategy of racing more often as we want to see our leading swimmers to be competing more regularly.

France 1:39.54 and new world record in the mixed 4×50 medley
At the FINA 2013 Swimming World Cup meet in Doha today, France took down the mixed 4×50 medley world record. Read for instance SwimmingWorld and see the result list here.
France demolished the world record that already should stand to them in the first place. Jeremy Stravius (23.25), Giacomo Perez Dortona (26.41), Melanie Henique (25.45) and Anna Santamans (24.53) turned in a 1:39.54 in the mixed relay event to crush the previous world record of 1:41.70 set by Russia at the Moscow stop.

Retired coach, active swimmer dies during swim leg of triathlon

Patrick Hayden, 59, was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. at Boulder City Hospital, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. He was found unresponsive about 8:55 a.m. Saturday while swimming the first leg of the event. Family members were to do the running and bicycling legs of the competition. […]
Hayden would have been 60 years old in January, Dawn said. He was an active swimmer and frequented the Y to stay in shape.
Vanover said the park rangers weren’t sure what caused him to lose consciousness in the water.
