Lost ring returned to dying man after nearly 40 years underwater
Phillips lost the ring in two weeks after he got it back in ’74, when it got caught in the pop top of a beer can he tried to open on a boating trip with his future wife. He was also currently in the hospital recovering from brain surgery, and battling cancer when Tovin found him to return it (even getting down on one knee with a jewelry box to do so). Phillips was overwhelmed by the symbolic return to such a happy time in his life. “Thank you, Lord, that I got it back,” Phillips told CNN.

Congo Swim 2013
“You are invited to support peace and justice in a location of your choice through CongoSwim. Learn more at congoswim.org. Kambale Musavuli of Friends of the Congo learned to swim as an adult and braved the roughest current and waves during the crossing of the 22 mile length of Lake Tahoe in California with Keris Dahlkamp. Colette (Coco) Ramazani led a healing ceremony on the lake and launched her Breaking the Silence tour with CongoSwim. As a survivor of war and systematic rape, Coco bravely speaks out to dissolve the ongoing myth that the conflict in eastern Congo is tribal or ethnic and inspire people in the West to deepen our understanding of international links to the atrocities in her country.”
