It’s no jump to conclusions, suggesting one pool in Lawrence is filled with a potential Olympic star.

Fourteen-year-old Michael Andrew has swimming speed that already rivals that of Olympians. But unlike other young athletes, he’s already turned pro.

During a recent event in Minnesota, Andrew became the youngest male in history to swim the 100M breaststroke in under 56 seconds. He’s also broken similar records in other events, some of which were previously held by Olympic legend Michael Phelps.

“Once in a while, I look at the USA Swimming website at the achievements I’ve done and records,” Andrew said. “I’ve pretty much set history, and there’s nobody else who’s done the records I’ve set.”

  • Politiken second of “Big Three” Danish newspapers to launch Swim section

Again spotted by SwimNews.dk, Politiken is now the second of the “big three” broadsheet-quality national daily newspapers to launch a dedicated swimming sports section on their online sports site, a few weeks after Berlingske did the same. Revisiting the Berlingske section, I see that they have posted quite a few stories, included the one about Ryan Lochte’s freak injury, so this is awesome. Politiken will undoubtedly fill quickly with interesting stories, as they have one of the most capable swim reporters in Allan Nielsen. We are waiting for you, Jyllands-Posten, still without a swim section despite of your paper being named after the peninsula that Herning lies in ! :-)

  • Daniel Gyurta’s expectations for the Herning 2013 European SC Championships

Read the interview here on herning2013.com

Daniel Gyurta is a swimmer who does not only show great results, he also value great sportsmanship. In 2012 Gyurta won the 200 m breaststroke at the Olympics, but earlier that year Gyurta’s competitor and friend, Alexander Dale Oen, passed away at a training camp in Arizona. After his Olympic victory, Gyurta had a replica of his gold medal created and gave it to the family of Norwegian Alexander Dale Oen.

Last year at the Olympics in London you won the 200 m breaststroke and this year you won the 200 m breaststroke at the World Championship in Barcelona being the first person ever to win three gold medals in this event at Worlds. How can you use these great results in your future career?

    – It was a great pleasure to win again, and this success can currently motivate me. I always manage to find new challenges, which are worth of working to it.
