European champion Camilla Pedersen is still in a critical condition after her accident the 3rd of September and she is kept in a coma in Odense, where her family is by her side.

As a professional athlete she is making her living from winning races and due to her accident, she will not be competing for a while.

We know her personal economy will be a concern for her, when she returns to life, and therefore we are trying to gather donations to help her financially, so her main focus can be on health issues and rehabilitation.

  • Nikon’s AW1 might be the best underwater camera ever made

    Quote The Verge:

The concept of a waterproof camera is nothing new — most camera manufacturers offer a variety of waterproof point-and-shoots, and Nikon even made mass-market, waterproof film cameras back in the ’60s and ’70s. However, Nikon’s now bringing something new to the waterproof market: the oddly-named Nikon 1 AW1 is a mirrorless, interchangeable lens camera based on 2011’s Nikon 1 J1, but it keeps shooting when submerged in the water and is also shockproof and freezeproof.

Doctors at Odense University Hospital, where the European Ironman Champion remains, have reported that they have begun to lower Pedersen’s sleeping medication and will begin the process to waken her. While Pedersen remains in a critical condition, she is more stable than before. This process can take up to two weeks.

Doctors have also reported that within the first week of lowering medication, it will become clearly for them to predict the damage that has occurred and therefore what, if any, long term effect will be a result.

  • Should Ice Swimming Be In The Olympics?

A good question here on Open Water Swimming

One of the most fascinating topics at the 2012 Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Long Beach, California was the discussion on how to get ice swimming into the Winter Olympics.

Those discussions will undoubtedly continue at the 2013 Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Cork, Ireland. In addition to the Summer Olympics goal of athletes to go higher, faster, stronger, many events of the Winter Olympics have a high element of daredevil feats and inherent risk.
