• Historical footage of Trudy’s Ederle’s Channel swim. The song Blackbird was a hit the same year. As it is with many open water ultra endurance swimmers, they usually have a song stuck in their head. Could this have gone through her mind on the day of her swim so long ago?

  • Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates says his organisation will fight what he calls an unreasonable proposal to hold some of the swimming finals at the 2016 Rio Games late at night.

American TV networks want the final sessions to begin at 10:00pm local time, meaning some gold medals would be decided after midnight.

Coates said discussions were underway to change the draft schedule to protect the athletes.

“It’s a matter that the AOC will now take up with the international swimming body FINA and with the International Olympic Committee,” he told reporters.

“It’s just an unreasonable demand on the athletes to be competing at that time of night.”

  • One of the world’s most famous athletes Michael Phelps has quite the history of making headlines away from the pool, but his latest venture into the spotlight involves his girlfriend and a seemingly unnecessary debate over whether she was born a man or woman.

Taylor Lianne Chandler told Radar Online she was born with both sets of reproductive organs, but she identified as a boy until her teenage years. While that’s considered being born intersex, you’ll note the outlet’s headline reads she “Was Born A Man!”

  • A Stockton Unified School District physical education teacher is facing a charge of corporal injury to a child, and is on paid leave, after video surfaced of him trying to force a 14-year-old girl into a pool during a P.E. class.

Denny Peterson, employed by the school district for more than 10 years, is seen on video for 95 seconds using strong force to drag the girl toward the pool at Edison High School. The incident happened in late August, and much of it was captured on video by another student.

Gilbert Somera is a Stockton attorney representing the girl and her family.

“Regardless of her participation (in the class) it should disgust you how this man put his hands on a 14-year-old girl. She said multiple times, ‘my top is falling down,’” Somera said. He is preparing a claim and likely a lawsuit over the struggle.

  • The idea for the relay came out of the teammate’s support of Harris, a testicular cancer survivor who has been in remission for 3 years.

“We wanted to come up with a fun way to show our support for those who suffer from testicular and prostate cancer, to raise awareness for Movember and men’s health issues and to show Shaun, who has been swimming with our club for the past few months, that we support him and the recovery he has made from testicular cancer,” says coach, Emile De Bruin.

In a statement today the TUKS Mo Bro Relay have issued a challenge to other swimming teams – universities, schools and clubs – and individual swimmers around the country and world to register onMovember.com and swim in the name of Movember.
