  • Hurricane Ophelia: ‘Idiotic’ swimmers blasted for bathing off coast of Ireland as Storm Ophelia hits

Two swimmers have been branded “idiots” after recklessly ignoring severe weather warnings to go bathing off the coast of Ireland as the eye of Storm Ophelia approached.

Pensioner Timmy Flaherty and bather Emer Cannon defied advice urging people to stay indoors as experts warned the storm would bring flooding, violent, destructive winds and a danger to life.

Ophelia, which was a category three hurricane before being downgraded to a storm, hit the south-west tip of Ireland on Monday morning and moved northwards throughout the day.

Three people have so far been killed in the storm, officials confirmed.

  • Michael Phelps open up about depression, being bullied in film ‘Angst’

Swimmer Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian in history. Yet, he has fought his share of battles with depression and other mental health issues just like many of today’s youth.

In a new documentary about anxiety and its impact on kids, Phelps opens up about experiencing low self-worth when he was younger, even while he was racking up swimming medals and accolades.

“I just didn’t like who I was. If something was bothering me that would start to come out, and I would start feeling angry or depressed or upset, I would almost ignore it,” he tells a young boy in the film, “Angst.” “So I would shove it even farther down so I wouldn’t have to deal with it, so I never had to talk about it.”

  • Jilted girlfriend of prominent US banker dumps his Mercedes into swimming pool

Break-ups are ugly. But not every tale of spurn love ends with a Mercedes sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool.

Russian-born model Kristina Kuchma, who was dumped by prominent banker Guy Gentile, 41, did just that, driving her ex-lover’s car into the pool in his backyard, reported the New York Post.

The couple was at dinner near his Bahamas home with a friend, when Miss Kuchma, 24, said she was “pregnant” – not with a child, but with a business idea.

She asked Mr Gentile, who runs a Bahamas-based brokerage, for a funding of US$50,000 (S$67,500) to start a marketing business.

Mr Gentile, who was involved in a Wall Street pump-and-dump scheme in 2007 but became an FBI informant to beat the charges, then decided to end their year and a half-long relationship, according to the Post.
