  • My 104 metre constant weight dive at the Blue Element Freediving Competition. The dive itself felt great and easy and we were diving in such stunning conditions. The dive site itself is a volcanic crater and we had very deep water very close to the shore.

  • Fresno Pacific University officials say a chlorine spill affected 15 swimmers during practice. Fresno Fire’s Hazmat team determined a chlorinator malfunction caused the accident. The pool is shut down until further notice.

    Fresno Pacific’s Athletic Director says this is the first known incident of a chlorine spill in the pool. Crews are working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

    A tarp covered the entire pool at Fresno Pacific after a malfunction caused chlorine to accidentally spill into the water Tuesday afternoon.

  • It’s well known when Corunna and Owosso high school sports team meet, it’s going to be interesting because of their intense rivalry.

    But that all changed when a rivalry became a team effort to save a life.

    On Thursday, Corunna swimmers Xavier Staubs and Grant Warner had just wrapped up their first event, when they noticed Owosso junior Kamrin Samson was having trouble.

    Samson was sinking to the bottom of the pool, Staubs and Warner quickly went into action, bringing Samson to the surface to safety.

    Owosso’s head coach, a former police officer, performed a life-saving technique called a sternum rub and Samson began breathing again.

    He was then taken to a local hospital.

  • A private, after-hours event booked at the Southland Leisure Centre is drawing concerns from non-participants regarding the safety of minors prompting officials with the City of Calgary Community Services to discuss security with organizers.

  • A five-time Olympic Champion, Australian legend Ian Thorpe is one of the greatest swimmers ever and one the biggest stars of the Sydney Olympics, but after leaving the sport he had to overcome depression before inspiring others.

  • Concerns are mounting over an upcoming “naked water slides and wave pool” night at a city facility.

    The private, after-hours event is scheduled for Jan. 14 at Southland Leisure Centre, organized by nudist group Calgary Nude Recreation. Two other events are planned for Feb. 11 and March 11.

    But the group describes itself online as “family oriented and kid friendly and open to people of all ages, body types, all genders, sexual orientations, and anyone else in between,” which has some Calgarians worried about the safety of children.

    An online petition created over the weekend had generated more than 2,000 signatures by Sunday afternoon, calling on Mayor Naheed Nenshi and the city to “put this event to rest” or “at least . . . make it age appropriate.”

    “I respect the concept and believe in an 18+ setting,” wrote April Parker, who started the petition. “However, having naked children around a bunch of naked adults doesn’t seem like a good idea for any reason.”
