Following an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Swimming Federation (FINA), the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced today the competition schedule by session and the order of events for all of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic aquatics events.

Swimming events will be held for nine days commencing on Day 1 of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020–25 July 2020–with all heats being held in the evening and finals taking place in the morning. With the addition of three new events to the Tokyo 2020 swimming programme–the men’s 800m freestyle, the women’s 1500m freestyle and the 4 x 100m mixed medley relay–the total number of swimming events increases to 35. The first medal event will be the men’s 400m individual medley on Day 2 (26 July).

Following the swimming competition, artistic swimming will commence on Day 10 (3 August) with duet and team events. Eight diving events will be held between Day 2 and Day 15.
