Pop star Kylie Minogue stars in a new campaign for Tourism Australia aimed at enticing Brits to escape UK politics and come to Australia for a holiday. The ad is all in song and features other famous Australians such as Shane Warne, Ian Thorpe and Adam Hills. Some of the lyrics include: ‘When you need an end to what ails ya, call on your friends in Australia’ and ‘negotiating tricky trade deals is a shocker, but look! There’s a quokka’.

Behold Two Big Sea Lions Almost Sinking a Small Boat
While out on Puget Sound in Olympia, Washington, Spawn Fly Fish captured the hilarious sight of two enormous sea lions catching a ride atop a small fishing boat. The combined weight of these giant pinnipeds caused the stern of the boat to sink lower and lower into the water, yet it did not go down.

Thousands Told To Jump Into The Ocean As Australia’s Raging Fires Approached
Strong winds, lack of rain, and a historical heatwave have exacerbated Australia’s bushfire crisis, spreading the fires with incredible speed. At least nine people have died so far, including three volunteer firefighters. Over 11 million acres have burned, with approximately 900 homes destroyed in the state of New South Wales alone. Escape routes have been blocked, towns engulfed.
“[T]hey wanted us to get into the water, get against that [rock] wall,” Geoffrey said. “It’s got oysters and stuff, not the greatest thing to do but it will save you from radiant heat, it’s a barrier. So we were ready to jump in. And everyone was all along the edge, ready to go.”

Urgent measures to be taken against asbestos at Tokyo 2020 water polo venue
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government have announced they will take urgent measures against the asbestos found at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center, the water polo venue for next year’s Olympic Games.
The material was found in fire resistant coating on a pillar supporting the roof of the building, as reported by Kyodo News.
It had been discovered in 2017, but it was decided that no immediate measures were necessary at the time based on the material’s location and condition.
Following renovation works on the building the Government have since reviewed the assessment and announced asbestos containment measures.
They revealed that the area is not sealed off from its surroundings and the structure of the building allows for air within the section in question to circulate over the spectator seats.
