Prince Albert II has tested positive for the coronavirus, the Monaco Royal Palace has announced.

A statement said Prince Albert II, an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, was continuing to work from his apartment.

“Prince Albert II, who had tested at the beginning of the week, is COVID-19 positive,” it read.

“His state of health does not cause any concern.

“Albert is being treated by his GP and specialists at the Princess Grace Hospital.

“His Serene Highness urges the people of Monaco to respect containment measures and to limit contact with others to a minimum.

“Only the rigorous observance of these containment rules will stop the spread of the virus.”

On Tuesday, at least four more huge spectacles were taken down by the coronavirus: the French Open tennis tournament and Kentucky Derby horse race were both postponed until the fall, while soccer’s biggest continental championships — the Euros and Copa America — won’t be played until next year.

Which brings us to the biggest event of all.
