The world’s oceans are facing a dire future with scientists predicting the loss of 95% of the world’s tropical reefs by 2043. This prospect not only affects the biodiversity and ecosystems of these reefs but also endangers the livelihoods of nearly 500 million people who rely on coral reefs for food, income, and coastal protection. Former Paralympian swimmer Ellie Simmonds has been working alongside Mars and SHEBA to take part in the world’s largest coral restoration program HOPE Grows. In June, Ellie visited the iconic Hope Reef in Indonesia, and assisted with the coral restoration process from building and coating reef stars to planting and tying them together.
