Two friends, out for a day of swimming (illegally) in Kaliasot Dam in Bhopal, got more adventure than they bargained for when a crocodile tried to make a meal of one of them on Tuesday.

The croc clamped its jaws on the right thigh of 30-year-old Amit Jatav. But his friend Gajendra Yadav’s courage, and a wooden pole they used as a selfie-stick, turned into croc-poke-stick, saved the day. Jatav is in hospital, minus a chunk of his thigh and plus 30 stitches, and the two friends have a wild story to tell and re-tell.
