  • Given the uncertainty related with the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, the safeguard of the athletes’ health and safety, and in accordance with the request of the UAE authorities, FINA has decided to re-schedule the upcoming edition of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), initially programmed to take place in December 2020 in Abu Dhabi.

    The new dates of this competition are December 13-18, 2021, with the FINA World Aquatics Convention taking place also in Abu Dhabi, from December 10-12, 2021.

    It will be the second time in the history that these Championships are held in the UAE, after a successful edition organised in 2010 in Dubai.

    “We have worked in close co-operation during the last weeks with the UAE authorities on this matter and we believe this is the most suitable solution for all those taking part in this competition. The Abu Dhabi rendezvous in December 2021 will be a great achievement and will once more be a strong inspiration for the development of Swimming and Aquatics in the region”, considered FINA President Dr Julio C. Maglione.

    Moreover, FINA is pleased to announce that its General Congress, where the FINA Bureau for the period 2021-2025 is to be elected, will take place on June 5, 2021 in Doha (QAT). The new members of the FINA Bureau 2021-2025 will initiate their term immediately after the conclusion of the Tokyo Olympic Games, to be staged from July 23-August 8, 2021.

To celebrate the reopening, we had this huge crowd that had been waiting for hours until my uncle opened the door at midnight in Laugardalslaug, Reykjavik. Open water swimming without a break can be daunting for beginner triathletes and swimmers as well. Coach Bryan, the head coach of TheSwimMechanic.com and the president of OneWithTheOcean.org, gave us his top tips for getting back into the open water. His tips will help make you a faster, safer and more confident open water swimmer and triathlete! Coach Craig had a long conversation with Coach Bryan covering many topics including:

    1. Getting back into the open water after a long break.
    2. Acclimating to cold water.
    3. The most important open water specific skills that all swimmers and triathletes need.
    4. Answering common open water swimming questions.
