Announcement of Grand Opening Ceremony of Tokyo Aquatics Centre
We are pleased to announce that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) will hold a grand opening ceremony of the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Saturday 24 October 2020. The Tokyo Aquatics Centre is one of the new permanent venues TMG has constructed and will be used as the venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. The ceremony had been postponed from last March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Japan’s Suga tells UN Tokyo is ‘determined’ to host Olympics
In debut UN speech, new PM says Japan is determined to host Olympics ‘as proof humanity has defeated’ COVID-19 pandemic.
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has told the United Nations General Assembly that his government is determined to host the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after the games were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Games were originally scheduled for this summer, but were put off for a year in March by the International Olympic Committee and the Japanese government.
“In the summer of next year, Japan is determined to host the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games as proof that humanity has defeated the pandemic,†Suga said in a recorded message on Friday.
