    Throughout October and November, seven midwives and doctors will be swimming 77 miles in their local pools to raise money for Southampton Hospitals Charity. That’s the combined return distance of swimming from Dover to Calais… twice!

    Stadium Swim has six pools, including two spas, and can hold about 4,000 people. It’s open every day of the year from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. — and the pools are heated for cooler weather. There are also two swim bars.

    Today we celebrate Great Britain’s Keri-Anne Payne who became World Champion in the Women’s 10km event in both 2009 and 2011!

    In Shanghai (2011) she was rightly considered the favourite and delivered a stellar performance by arriving first and claiming her second Gold Medal in a row.

    A 1½ year old video but still interesting …

    A fearless passer-by jumped into frigid waters to save two dogs fighting for their lives after they fell through the ice. Stripped to just his shorts and with his own golden retriever at his side, Timofey Yuriev cut a path through the ice on Irvington Reservoir, New York, after spotting the animals on Saturday. With the ice broken, the two dogs were able to swim to safety. Their owner watched anxiously from the edge. “I’m the luckiest person in the world,” she is heard saying in video of the rescue.
