If he successfully clinches a spot in the 10km open water event, he would become just the fourth swimmer in history to compete in six Olympics.

At the 2016 Olympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling won a gold medal in the 100 m butterfly with a time of 50.39 seconds, the first Olympic gold medal won by Singapore. Schooling did not only manage to beat Michael Phelps in the final, but his incredible time set a new Olympic record, beating Michael Phelps’ record of 50.58 seconds at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
