Hungarian architecture student Alfréd Hajos was the undisputed star of the swimming events at the 1896 Games. Born Alfréd Guttman and raised in Budapest, his prowess in the water had its roots in tragedy. He determined to become a good swimmer at the age of 13 after his father drowned in the River Danube. He later changed his surname to Hajós which means “sailor†in Hungarian.

Liliana Ibáñez is an Olympic swimmer, the fastest in the history of Mexico in the 100 free meters. She has a master’s degree in urban development from the University of Texas and is a Y20 Youth Summit delegate.
This Guanajuato swimmer is one of the most outstanding athletes that Mexico has. In October 2020 he had to stop his preparation for the Olympics due to an operation on his right knee. However, Liliana is ready to wait for the meeting in Tokyo, which will be her third Olympic participation after London 2012 and Rio 2016.

IOC welcomes Pfizer and BioNTech’s donation of vaccines to teams heading for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020
As part of the plans to ensure safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE to donate doses of the companies’ COVID-19 vaccine to Games participants from National Olympic and Paralympic Committees around the world. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will work with their local governments to coordinate local distribution in accordance with each country’s vaccination guidelines and consistent with local regulations.

Search Continues Near Rock Point Bridge for Missing Swimmer
21-year-old Jesus Flores-Galindo went missing Sunday evening after swimming near Rock Point Bridge in Gold Hill.
JCSO Public Information Officer, Mike Moran, says Flores-Galindo decided to get in the water to cool off.
But after getting into the river, he suddenly went underwater and came up splashing. Moran says witnesses believe he didn’t know how to swim.
