Frank Varey, Rising Boxing Star, Dead At 16 After Drowning | Access
The British boxing world is mourning a tragic loss. Rising star Frank Varey has passed away after an accidental drowning. He was just 16 years old. The Manchester Evening News reports that police found Varey’s body late Thursday night. He had been reported missing hours earlier after visiting the River Dee outside Liverpool, where he went swimming with friends. As of Friday, no other details about Varey’s death have been made public.

Why Kids Keep Drowning at Summer Camps Despite Staff on Duty | Inside Edition
Roxie Mirabelle Forbes was only 6 when she drowned in the shallow end of her summer camp’s pool, and her parents have devoted themselves to trying to make sure other families don’t suffer the same loss. Her dad urges parents to carefully consider where they send their kids to summer camp. Her parents say four camp staffers were on lifeguard duty that day but didn’t notice the child floating face down in the water. After another counselor saw her, she was pulled from the pool, but it was too late. The summer camp denies any wrongdoing.

Next Saturday the 18th Annual “Swim Teal Lake: Benefit for Diabetes” is On | ABC 10 UP
Next Saturday, July 31st, the 18th annual “Swim Teal Lake: Benefit for Diabetes” is on.
If you’d like to participate in the iconic swim, registration is open until the morning of.
All donations go to the U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network to strengthen diabetes care and support across the U.P.
They’ve raised over two hundred thousand dollars the last 17 years.
This year’s race will consist of the traditional 2.25 mile swim across Teal Lake and a short ¼ mile swim.
The “Short–n–Sweet” swim will be a 1/4 mile event open to all ages!
It’s a great intro to open water swimming.
With that said—swimmers will be assisted by volunteer kayakers to keep them safe. And—they are still looking for volunteer kayakers for the event.
Also, the West End Health Foundation is their major sponsor and is doing a “Match Grant†for all swimmer donations (up to $15,000).
