• At the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, visitors might expect menacing displays of underwater predators but the new 1.2 million gallon shark exhibit is designed to turn fear into fascination. A stainless-steel cage offers visitors the chance to go up close and personal with sharks like the great hammerhead, silvertip, and tiger shark. Weekend TODAY’s Kristen Welker and Peter Alexander venture into the water for a behind-the-scenes look.

  • Antonio José Silva, President of the Portuguese Swimming Federation, and candidate for President at Europe’s Continental Organisation LEN, today launched his Election Manifesto and stressed that this was “on behalf of the entire team of Europe 4 All Aquatics.”

Mr. Silva said: “It is a great honour for me to represent E4AA as a Presidential candidate for the elections on 5 February. I am happy that this Manifesto is the fruit of many open discussions with Member Federation colleagues and represents the views of, and feedback from, the European aquatics community.

“This Manifesto states our desire for change and a commitment to democracy, integrity, transparency, and development. But as well as our belief in “Unity in Vision” you will also see that for each of the Manifesto Pillars objectives, there are also clear and practical action plans for the first 100 days. Should we be honoured to achieve your support, we will work quickly, and decisively with fixed priorities and timelines. We look forward to working with you to design and achieve a bright future for our beloved sport of aquatics.”

The Manifesto details how the over-arching vision of E4AA will be underpinned by four supporting pillars:

1            Integrity, Transparency and Good Governance

2            Our Sport: Accessible for All

3            Aquatic Disciplines: Learning and Working Together

4            Sustainability: Making LEN Fit for the Future

Josep Varvodic, the President of the Croatian federation, and a candidate for Vice President in the LEN elections said:

“The preparation of this Manifesto has been a positive team effort and we will continue to work in this way. Between now and February 5 many of our colleagues will speak up about key Manifesto topics on the E4AA communications’ platform, where we are also looking forward to revealing more information about our growing group of supporters.”

The candidacy of Mr. Silva for the Presidency of LEN has been fully supported in letters from the Presidents of the Portuguese Youth and Sports Institute, the National Olympic Committee of Portugal, and the National Paralympic Committee of Portugal.

  • In the last 12 years creating Youtube videos, I’ve had two strokes that have received a huge amount of feedback from people. Dan Smith’s easy 1:10 100m free and Lukasz Wojt’s Ironman Swim. Let’s take a look at Lukasz Wojt’s stroke from underwater and see what makes him so fast.

  • For 30 years, on the first day of the new year, members of the Fair Oaks Dolphins swim team have honored a tradition: jumping in Lake Natoma at dawn.

While it’s not a traditional polar bear plunge, meaning subfreezing water- it may as well be, for the water they’re about to enter was indeed snow recently. And it was fed immediately by the neighboring Sierras.
