Swimmer Dies at Cronulla’s Shelly Beach, Two Others Found Unconscious | 7NEWS
A man has died, and another is fighting for life, following an emergency in Cronulla.
Just before 2pm, the emergency unfolded. It’s understood three men were swimming in rock pools at Shelly Beach when they were pulled out to sea, struggling against a strong rip. The ocean conditions today were rough, and winds were gusting.
One of the men, believed to be aged in his 20s, was able to swim to shore. The other two were knocked out unconscious in the ocean.
Surf lifesavers immediately deployed jet skis and had to perform CPR as they transported the pair back to South Cronulla beach. Swimmers were cleared from the water as a rescue chopper landed to take a man aged in his 40s who was placed in an induced coma. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the other male didn’t survive.
