There isn’t much swimming happening in this weather, but it could be the perfect time to learn at your local YMCA.

The American Red Cross says about 80% of adults claim to know how to be able to swim but more than half also admit they’d fail a basic swimming test.

A pilot program at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte is helping people with traumatic swimming experiences overcome their fears.

And finally… in a world first, a person has swum across the Red Sea.

British endurance swimmer Lewis Pugh completed the 123-kilometer swim on Wednesday. He did it to raise awareness of the dangers that the Red Sea’s coral reefs face,… as a result of worsening climate change.

The UN Patron of the Oceans took sixteen days to swim from Tiran Island in Saudi Arabia to the Egyptian city of Hurghada.

While in Egypt, Pugh will attend the Cop27 climate summit, which takes place from November 6th for 12 days in Sharm El Sheikh.

Welcome back to Athlete Center, today on the channel we are going to feature Six Celebrities you Didn’t Know were Swimmers. “Celebrity” isn’t typically the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of a swimmer. While the aquatic realm’s best might not all be ultra-famous, they are the celebrities of our niche community of weirdos. Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte can stop the show just by walking into a swim meet. Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky are recognizable to just about any age group swimmer from 100 yards away. All of these people are well known for their success in the sport, but they are also recognized on a daily basis by countless non-swimmers. What about the opposite? Who are the prominent people who have experienced great success in life and have a background in swimming?
