Very nice, competitors at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool will be awarded $1,500 for every gold medal, probably something for lesser medals too, and $15,000 if they manage to set a world record. The European All-Star team will be comprised of up to 22 men and 22 women, and has already seen commitments from World Championship swimmers from Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Belarus, Denmark, Austria and Lithuania. Read more here on usaswimming.org and watch races from 2003 – 2009.

This German-designed Sealander Amphibious Camping Trailer does double duty as both a place to rest and a lake-worthy water vessel. Ultra-light and waterproof, to be towed by almost any vehicle, and with a handy outboard motor for when on the water. The soundtrack could be a little less “The Last Samurai” me thinks, and a little more James Bond :-)

Yeehaa, two-time Olympic breaststroke champion Kosuke Kitajima believes he will need to set a world record to win a gold medal at the London Olympics next year, because of the rise of his rivals. Very reasonable thinking, as Alexander Dale Oen was only 0.13 off the world record of 58.58 seconds in the 100 breaststroke. Read IBNLive

As they say in this video below, amoebic brain infection are the medical equivalent of being struck by lightning, but still horrific. An extremely common amoeba living in just about every warm body of fresh water, that invades the central nervous system via the nose and kills you almost certainly within two weeks, even if diagnosed early. Chance of infection is only 1 in 10 million, nose clips can reduce risk, but best solution is still to avoid hot, stagnant freswater ponds and streams. Read ABC News and Wikipedia.
