French swimmer Amaury Leveaux celebrating his men’s 100 meter freestyle world record of 45.12, in the Rijeka 2008 LEN European Short Couse Championships semifinal. The day after he improved that record even more, to 44.94, first and still only man under 45 seconds. He had a good meet, setting world records also in the 50 freestyle and in the 50 butterfly, winning 3 individual gold medals in total, and doing good with the relay team also.
The Element tablet by Pantech offers a waterproof design, quick dual-core processor, HDMI output and 4G LTE data. Bad thing is that it is not operable underwater, and not particularly rugged beyond water resistance. Whitner Milner died in the family pool from shallow water blackout, which experts believe to be the #1 cause of swimming-related deaths. Rhonda Milner, MD, is working with pool expert Tom Griffiths and Clarion, the safety sign company, to bring awareness to the danger, pointing to the 3 criteria of shallow water blackout: That it is competitive, repetitive and involves over-breathing. A sobering reply to that intelligence-inducing story earlier this evening.

With less than five months to go, some are questioning whether the University of Maryland’s formula for saving its men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams was developed in good faith, or merely as a public relations stunt. They are supposed to raise $11.6 million by June 30, and have raised $1 million so far.

Beware, there is a quite NSFW lady taking the plunge in just ‘tassels and a thong’, having promised to do so if she raised $5000 dollars for a young boy with a rare brain disease. And if you peek (as I know some people other than me who did), dig that man in the yellow cap doing the same, while his son covers his eyes :-)
