  • Behold a high bar base jump stunt almost ending in death

Not swimming relevant, but 47-year-old father-of-five hospital surgeon and former gymnast on the Norwegian national team Richard Henriksen attempting a death-defying high bar base jump stunt when the construction collapses. Having no time to think, he decided to just go through with the moves while the setup fell to pieces, head barely missing the cliff on the way down, managing to get the parachute opened when the bar came swooshing close by him, hitting the ground just seconds later. He has performed complicated operations on fellow base jumpers, blames frustrating IT systems for needing this primal rush, has discussed this clip with his (still smiling) kids, and doesn’t even sound like he is done with it, in this NRK report. The reporter you see spectating visibly shaking after Henriksen went down. Crazy.

(Oh wait, in this video he performs stunts in a pool with his kids, so it is swimming relevant :-)

‘A society where kids don’t break arms and legs, is a bad society in my opinion’

Here is the Norwegian report (in Norwegian)

That moment at the FINA 2009 World Swimming Championships in Rome, Italy, Michael Phelps relieved after having brushed aside boasting Milorad Čavić, with a new World record of 49.82 (Čavić right behind him in 49.95, some of us a bit disappointed as we rooted for him :-P).

Tomorrow 13 October 2012 at 16:00 local time, Sundlaug Kópavogs will be the venue of the 4th annual dual meet between Iceland and the Faroe Islands, in Kópavogur, Iceland. I expect us (the Faroese) to win a few battles, but alas yet again to loose the war :-)

Update: The 2012 ISL-FAR dual meet will be streamed live on SportTV.is

Taking his usual morning stroll along the surf in Pompano Beach, Gino Covacci noticed a strange ball-like object at the high tide line. He kicked it over and found himself staring at the biggest eyeball he had ever seen. Quite fresh also, by the looks of it, and the whole ‘still bleeding’ bit. They are now investigating who the owner can possibly be, I expect he’ll be there soon enough ;-) See video on Orlando Sentinel, via Arbroath

  • Rain room lets you walk between the drops

The Rain Room, an exhibition at the Barbican Centre in London, is a room from whose ceiling torrential rain falls. However, a series of 3D cameras are used to track where people in the room are, and it selectively stops the rain such that you effectively walk between the drops. Still noisy though, Read boingboing
