43-year-old South African Wayne Soutter has become the first person ever to swim from the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland to the north Antrim coast in Northern Ireland. Others have conquered the North Channel between Scotland and Northern Ireland, but none of them have crossed by the shortest and most treacherous route, from Kintyre. And it was tough, see the BBC, via NewsLetter.

  • Lochte’s sister Megan apologizes for “racist” video

Ryan Lochte’s sister Megan Lochte is in hot water for making offensive remarks during a talk show appearance back in 2008, saying now it is misunderstood, that the “talk show” was actually a comedy skit. See US Weekly via BlackBook and Gossip Cop

This was not a real interview, and it in no way reflects my true feelings or persona whatsoever, The intent was to make fun of the ignorance of people who actually do not have an understanding of other cultures and speak in racist ways. The skit and my character were supposed to be making fun of ignorance … I do see how it was highly offensive to the viewer, but as seen by today’s widespread outrage, it clearly did increase awareness of the ignorance of those who are racist. … While the intent of the script was to shed light on cultural ignorance. I realize that in application it did offend people, and for that I apologize.

A strange sight in Toftir harbor, yesterday evening, three young men who’d put on wetsuits and lowered a fishing crate into the harbor, to see if they could get up into it all three at once. Quite difficult, by the looks of it, as it was very prone to keeling over. Moments later, all three and the crate were safe on the quay again.

Warning to all wedding photographers, a newly married Montreal-area women drowned this past Friday during a ‘trash the dress’ photo shoot in the Ouareau River. The 30-year-old woman stepped into water that was neither deep nor fast-flowing. However, her wedding dress soaked up the river water, making it extremely heavy. She then slipped on the rocks and was carried away by the river, a volunteer scuba diver later locating her body at the bottom of a stagnant pool of water about 100 feet away where the shoot was taking place. The photographer and a passerby even tried to help her, but weren’t able to lift her out of the water, simply because her dress was so heavy. Read The Montreal Gazette via PetaPixel

He protested this morning that he couldn’t join our local swimming club, since he didn’t know how to swim. ‘I only know how to jump and dive and make somersaults’. I guess we forced him to the registration / free swim today, and I guess it went okay ;-)
