    At the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul today, South Africa’s Chad Le Clos and Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte posted new championships records, Le Clos with a time of 48.82 in the men’s 100 butterfly and Meilutyte with a time of 29.44 in the women’s 50 breaststroke. Japan’s Daiya Seto won the men’s 400 IM in 3:59.15, USA’s Matt Grevers a tight fight with Russia’s Stanislav Donets in the men’s 100 backstroke, 49.89 to 49.91, USA’s Oliva Smoliga the women’s 100 backstroke in 56.64, Italy’s Fabio Scozzoli the men’s 100 breaststroke in 57.10, New Zealand’s Lauren Boyle the women’s 800 freestyle in 8:08.62, and USA the men’s 4×200 freestyle in 6:51.40.     After winning the men’s 100 backstroke at the Istanbul 2012 World Championships tonight, Matt Grevers went over to meet his family. Then the supporters found him. Then it was photo op after photo op. My camera is too slow for this.

  • Ian Thorpe ‘happy’ at Lance Armstrong’s downfall

    IAN Thorpe said he was “happy” at Lance Armstrong’s downfall and congratulated the doping authorities that exposed the seven-time Tour de France winner as a drug cheat.

    “I was happy. It shows that no matter who you are and whatever you do, you can fall,” Thorpe said on the closing day of the Doha Goals sporting forum.

    At the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul today, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu and Great Britain’s Hannah Miley posted new championships and European records, Hosszu with a time of 2:02.20 in the women’s 200 butterfly, and Miley with a time of 4:23.14 in the women’s 400 IM. USA’s Ryan Lochte won the men’s 200 freestyle in 1:41.92, and USA both finals this evening with a time of 3:06.40 in the men’s 4×100 freestyle, and a time of 7:39.25 in the women’s 4×200 freestyle.
