  • Bone chilling cold grips Russia, Ukraine

“In Russia, when temperatures drop to minus 20 degrees Celcius, its time for a swim.

Winter swimmers here have been enjoying their hobby for years, saying a dip in the cold water keeps them invigorated and full of energy.

This woman says she prefers to swim when it’s really cold outside… when it’s too warm, she says, the cold water burns.

In snow covered parts of the Ukraine, winter swimmers bob up and down in freezing water. And some top it off with a roll in the snow.

But if freezing water isn’t your cup of tea, there are more conventional winter sports to be enjoyed.”

According to a woman, her 33-year-old husband, who had access to several firearms, made threats to harm himself.

Due to the incident being so close to the Lockport Highschool that happened to be hosting a swim meet, the building had to be evacuated.

A stricken swimmer has praised rescuers who pulled him from choppy seas as he battled to save his niece during Sidmouth’s traditional Boxing Day dip.

Barry Curwen, 53, described how a “freak” tide pulled him and his young relative 100 feet across the beach and swept them onto rocks.

“Aside from learning that female anglerfish don’t really appreciate males latching on and transmuting into an obnoxious pair of gonads, shrimp, apparently, can be done in by their own overwhelming vanity. To tell the truth, we never saw shrimp as the kind of animal that would take pride in its appearance.” Read Geekosystem

With his waders on, Eicher stepped out onto the ice, taking a chance on every step. “I just wasn’t thinking. I just wanted to try to rescue the friend of the family,” he said. “It broke and I fell in, and I was probably about 3 and 1/2 feet deep.” He finally reached Bart who had spent an hour and 1/2 in the frigid water. Eicher held the dog close before they were rescued.
