Swimming Australia’s management has been criticised in an independent review of the team’s failure at the London Olympics. The review describes a ‘culturally toxic’ environment within the team with abuse of alcohol and prescription drugs, as well as flouting of curfews and bullying, going unchecked. Head coach Leigh Nugent describes the wording of the report as ’emotive’ but says all the issues raised are now being addressed. See The Guardian

In fact, because so few freedivers survive shallow water blackout, few medical professionals even know how to treat survivors. Dr. Ivan Montoya is one of only three or four doctors in South Florida with that type of specialty.
“It’s basically you die or most of the time you have a problem with near drowning,†exclaimed Dr. Montoya with Mercy Hospital. â€A shallow water blackout diver or patient is a drowning patient. There’s nothing special that you do for that. You either die or it’s a near drowning.â€

Underwater ice hockey (also called sub-aqua ice hockey) is an extreme sport played upside-down underneath frozen pools or ponds, where participants wear wetsuits and flippers and use the underside of the frozen surface as playing area for a floating puck.
