Michael Phelps might be back. Or not.
Cap & Goggles had this breaking news story, yesterday, quickly confirmed by NBC
Michael Phelps is about to launch a comeback. He’ll soon be returning to training; in fact, he’s rumored to be arriving in Colorado Springs, at the Olympic Training Center, in the next few days. Maybe he won’t show. Perhaps he’ll read these publicized rumors and get spooked and insist that he’s still happily retired on the links. The man has nothing to prove to anyone. He’s the greatest Olympian of all time, regardless of whether or not he ever touches chlorinated water again.
NBC-2.com WBBH News for Fort Myers, Cape Coral Phelps doesn’t sound so convincing himself, but the swimming world is abuzz, the story even reaching Danish main media already.
Why do I keep getting texts about coming back? Do ppl really believe everything they hear or read? There are … m.tmi.me/VVJFR

Stephanie Rice rethinking about Glasgow comeback
Read Business Standard
Two weeks after confirming a comeback attempt, Rice said that opportunities in business and her previous shoulder injury is keeping her from contesting the 400m individual medley and take up swimming again at the Glasgow event.
Rice regretted that she has not fully recovered from the shoulder injury, unsure whether or not she should consider her future at the pool, after an extended lapse.
Stating that her comeback depends on whether she can handle swimming 60 km a week, Rice said that she is yet to begin training in the pool after taking a post-London Olympic sabbatical, even as she is preparing to launch her own swimwear range.

Swim in Public Pools? New Study Finds Stinky Issues
Ah nice, read WCTV.tv
CDC researchers collected water samples from filters at 160 public pools, booth indoor and outdoor, located in the metro-Atlanta area. They found “poop” in nearly 60 percent of the pools, with tests revealing 58 percent of the water samples were positive for the bacteria Escherichia coli, or E. coli. […]
The high percentage of E. coli contamination suggests some swimmers may be having a “fecal incident” in the water, the CDC said, or that some people simply aren’t showering themselves thoroughly enough before they enter the pool.

Ryan Lochte is NOT so dumb, says New York Post
Read New York Post
Lochte appears on first glance to be a beautiful catastrophe, the likes of which has not seen since Jessica Simpson made befuddled musings over chicken and tuna on MTV’s “Newlyweds.â€
Lochte is mesmerizing, and not just because he’s got a way with pickup lines and tightly fitting T-shirts and says his life “is like a Seinfeld.â€
He makes up words like “enfidence†— which is similar to “emphasis†but with added moxy — and “recipitate,†which is indescribable.
He’s managed to take a career in swimming — a sport people generally care about for about eight days in a four year period — and make himself a brand. A whole brand built around the perception that he has nary a brain cell to spare.
As it turns out, he’s a charming fellow with an especially good relationship with his mom, and a desire to help out charitable causes.

Google Maps the Oceans for Underwater Street View, and You can Help
We’ve mentioned the Catlin Seaview Survey before, where underwater footage is recorded for scientists and the rest of us to enjoy and use, in order to assess the state of coral reefs over time. They have been using a pretty high-tech 360-degree panoramic camera called the Catlin Seaview SVII, but with smart phone camera capabilities advancing so fast, we can help out too. Read PC MagAt Google I/O on Thursday, Catlin Seaview Survey director Richard Vevers appealed to divers and developers to assist in the project. Vevers and his team use the survey’s own $50,00 Seaview SVII underwater cameras on their mapping dives, but he said new 360-degree photography capabilities built into Android phones like the Galaxy S4 can replicate that work.
