• Summary

And exciting night of racing, producing two Danish individual records and one Danish (club) relay record. Mie Ø. Nielsen broke her own 26.96 Danish record in the 50 back with a blistering 26.84, and Mathias Andersen the 50 breaststroke record with a time of 27.54 beating Kristian Outinen’s 27.55 Danish record from 2008. Mads Glæsner and Pál Joensen battled marvelously in the 1500 freestyle, and two more swimmers made the Danish Herning 2013 team:

    • 400 free W – Line Jørgensen Bruun
    • 100 free M – Magnus Westermann

    What to expect

A hopefully formidable fight right from the start, when Mads Glæsner and Pál Joensen meet in the men’s 1500 freestyle. Chartres 2013 European SC silver medalist Viktor B. Bromer maybe threatening Simon Sjödin’s 200 fly Nordic record of 1:52.90. Lotte Friis similarly able to make another Nordic mark in the 400 freestyle, if she cares to swim real fast. Mie Ø. Nielsen winning easily in the 50 backstroke, but a lot of good fights in the remaining events.

Pál and Mads pretty beat at Istanbul 2012

    What to expect

Danes hope that Friday 13 December 2013 will be the great Danish night at the Herning 2013 European Short Course Championships, featuring Lotte Friis in the 800 freestyle, Rikke Møller Pedersen in the 200 breaststroke, Mie Ø. Nielsen in the 100 backstroke and Jeanette Ottesen Gray in the 100 freestyle and/or 50 butterfly. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we will see the best day of swimming tomorrow at the Danish Short Course Champs in Gladsaxe, despite of them swimming the same events as when in Herning, as the swimmers mentioned are so dominant that they should be able to just cruise to their qualification tomorrow. But then we have the battle between defending 400 IM champ Chris Christensen and day 1’s Danish 200 IM record setter Viktor B. Bromer, a possible tussle between Jeanette Ottesen Gray, Mie Ø. Nielsen and Pernille Blume in the 100 freestyle, and Andreas Schiellerup and Magnus Jákupsson recently only one tenth of a second from the Danish record in the 50 backstroke.

In a move that has been coming for quite some time, Michael Phelps has re-entered the testing pool at USADA and has been tested twice in the last quarter by the organization according to the latest release of stats today.

Swimming World first got wind of the fact he was back in the testing pool earlier today when Phelps surprised everyone in attendance by taking a dip in the warmup pool at the Arena Grand Prix in Minneapolis this afternoon, and has been waiting for proof with the release of quarterly stats that were expected to drop.

Just minutes ago, USADA updated its website with the proof that Phelps more than made the November 6 mythical deadline to comeback and give the sport another go by actually having entered within the last quarter. Enough to induce a pair of tests.
