• The Barton County Sheriff’s Office found evidence for criminal charges against a suspect in the alleged sexual assault that happened Feb. 3 on a Great Bend USD 428 school bus that was heading back to Great Bend from a swim meet in Salina.

    According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, they have concluded the initial investigation.

    “It is our belief the investigation supports evidence that the following crimes occurred. These crimes include aggravated criminal sodomy, Battery and criminal restraint,” Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

    Bellendir also mentioned that the criminal sodomy charge is normally a felony, but that might not be the case is juvenile court. This determination is under the jurisdiction of Barton County Attorney Doug Matthews.

    The sheriff’s office has identified a 15-year-old victim, and a 17-year-old suspect. Both are students at Great Bend High School.

    “Because both the suspect and the victim are juveniles, their names will not be released,” Bellendir said.

    The case was given to the Barton County attorney’s office late Monday.

  • The Chinese Swimming Association has announced it will be issuing a “warning penalty” to swimmers Wang Lizhuo and An Jiabao after they tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol.

    According to a terse statement posted online late on Monday, the CSA said it would be also be warning and fining Wang’s Chinese Navy team and An’s Tianjin club as well as fining their coaches.

    Wang and An’s identities were revealed when the CSA announced last week that six Chinese swimmers had failed doping tests during the 2015-16 season.

    It identified a third swimming as Chinese Navy’s Zhao Ying, who also tested positive for Clenbuterol in an out-of-competition test but has not yet been punished.

  • A British holidaymaker has been rescued from the sea after reportedly attempting to swim after a cruise ship which she thought her husband had boarded without her.

    Susan Brown, 65, allegedly told hospital staff she jumped into the water and tried to catch up with the liner ‘Marco Polo’ because she mistakenly believed her partner was on it.

    After four hours in the water she was rescued by Portuguese fishermen who heard her screaming “help me, help me” and was taken to hospital in a confused state and with advanced hypothermia.
